Welcome to our website
paying tribute to the famous S/S Canton, the last ocean liner to carry
P&O's traditional black & stone livery. But within a year of
her introduction she was repainted in P&O's new white and buff
livery. She was the last passenger ship to join the P&O fleet
before the outbreak of the Second World War.
During the Second World War the Canton had perhaps the most arduous service of any of the P&O liners. She had steamed 221,000 miles over the war period. After a full overhaul and refurbishment in 1946, she had the honour of re-establishing passenger services to the Far East in October 1947. Initially the route was not extended to Japan due to the legacy of the Second World War. She continued in service for a few years before being retired in 1962 and sold for scrapping in Hong Kong. This website aims to record the history of this famous British ocean liner and act as a virtual home to honour and commemorate this fine ship. We hope you enjoy this website and when you leave we hope you will visit again soon
